Steps to take:

[1] Decide if you want the visitors to see your www or non-www version of your website (use 301 permanent redirect to your preferred version)

[2] Verify website ownership in Webmaster Tools – Enable email forward for critical messages from Google (hacking, malware, crawling issues)

[3] Domain background check – see if there is any bad history associated with your domain (was it a spammer domain?)
-[a] check the “keywords” listed in your webmaster tools for your site (any unwanted terms there?)
-[b] indexed with a [site: yourwebsite.com]
-[c] ranked when searching for domain name
